Prudent Policies

For his part, Dr Adutwum assured teachers of prudent policies that would create the enabling environment for effective teaching and learning.

“We mean business when it comes to education development in the country because we believe education holds the key to economic transformation and poverty reduction,” he said.

Dr. Adutwum, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, remarked that all of the Education Ministry’s initiatives are aimed at providing Ghanaian children with a 21st-century education.

He explained that the double-track system was implemented to help raise enrollment, and that by the next academic year, 70% of SHSs will have eliminated the double-track system as a result of planned school infrastructure development across the country.

Advancing Teaching Profession

Dr Christian Addai-Poku, Registrar of the National Teaching Council, indicated in his welcome address that the council’s policies and practices were helping to enhance the country’s teaching profession.

“Let no one lower the bar and allow inexpensive entrance criteria into the profession. “Our requirements should remain as stringent as those of physicians, nurses, lawyers, accountants, engineers, and others,” he stated.

“The Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination remains one of the best quality assurance measures to ensure that only those fit for purpose get engaged in our schools,” Dr. Addai-Poku told reporters.
